Baby Soap

Choosing the “right” baby soap requires more than just a sniff at the various scents. In fact, those that do not have any smell at all may be the best thing for your baby’s skin.

Babies depend on their parents for protection. Good health is achieved when parents strive to understand what babies really need. This means, looking beyond what’s superficial. For example, if parents constantly get themselves swayed by the various marketing schemes, they will end up with the products which will not be good for their babies.

Baby soap varies a lot. Although most of them look and smell the same, there are ingredients found in one that you won’t find in another, and vice versa. Baby soap may also be chosen according to the age group of the baby. For example, a newborn baby will definitely benefit most from a soap specially formulated for the newborns. There are also those made for toddlers, as well as for older children.

But what should be understood is the fact that baby soap needs to be as mild as possible. That is, standard adult toiletries are out of the question. Microbes, which are known to be harmful to health, make these adult toiletries and cosmetics their breeding ground. Those that contain plant extracts, vitamins, and proteins, have a greater risk of hosting microbes.

Since a baby’s skin is tender and delicate, it only necessitates cleansing with the purest and mildest type of soap. In truth, doctors even advise parents against the use of soap on their babies. This is because of the fact that most baby soap commercially available everywhere are not as mild as they claim to be. Thus, if parents feel the need to use soap in bathing their babies, they should have the time to carefully examine their choices.

One of the major things to consider when buying baby soap is its fragrance. Most of us are guilty of choosing the one which exudes scent we can smell a couple of feet away. While a good-smelling baby is nice, there is no real need to use highly-fragrant soaps. Babies are born naturally sweet-smelling, and will only require gentle and mild cleansing.

Hypoallergenic baby soaps are also a good option. Some babies are born more prone to allergies than others. However, most of the time, it is not known what these babies are allergic too. There are times when scent triggers such irritations. Thus, hypoallergenic products help to prevent these problems.

We are all for the safest baby products the market has to offer. But sometimes, the only real way to obtain these is to choose the natural or organic baby soap. A pure, all-natural alternative does not contain any of the harmful additives that commercial soaps have. There are even products in the market that have toxic ingredients. Since it is predictable for a baby to put his fingers inside his mouth, he may inadvertently swallow some of the baby soap. To ensure that the soap you’re using is the purest, you can actually make your own. There are a lot of homemade baby soap recipes online. They are not only easy to make, they benefit the baby the most as well.

For those who do not have the time to make their own soap “cocktail”, they still have to make sure that they do more than just glance at the variety of baby soaps on the shelves. Look for the presence of “sodium laurel sulfate” or SLS in the soap. This chemical is said to be harmful to the immune system.

Our babies deserve all the love and affection. And most of the time, the best expressions do not come in highly-scented packages.
