Diaper Bags

Buying a diaper bag does not seem as important as the other elements of baby care. After all, what could be more challenging than picking out the right color and design, right? Wrong. Diaper bags may not have received as much of the limelight as the other baby stuff, like feeding bottles, baby clothes, diapers, and others. However, they actually deserve more attention that they are getting, because you will be depending on them for sometime.

There are a lot of diaper bags to choose from. But before you search through the pile, narrow down your choices according to the most important factors. First, assess your lifestyle. Do you travel often? And if you do, do you travel light, or do you always bring everything you could get your hands on? Would you rather carry a bag on your shoulder or on your back? While there are other things to think about, choosing from among the various diaper bags is influenced by your personal preference.

There are several styles available, and one should fit your lifestyle, these are: bag, sling, tote, messenger, and backpack. The conventional diaper bag is obviously the most widely-available. This usually comes as square-shaped, with a handle that is long enough to carry on the shoulder. Closures differ. Some use zippers, while others have snaps or Velcro. The traditional bag has a lot of different sizes, from small ones meant for use in quick trips, to the large ones which are capable of holding feeding bottles and accessories.

The sling diaper bags have single straps for use over the shoulder. This type possesses most of the features in the backpack style, but involves only one strap.

Tote features lesser numbers of accessories and pockets than the conventional diaper bags. A tote generally has two handles, available as either short or long, and can be carried in the hand or over the shoulder.

The messenger diaper bag is the most recent addition. It basically has the features seen on the backpack style, but with only a single long and wide strap. This is designed to be worn over the user’s shoulder, and across his body, mimicking that of the mailman’s bag.

The backpack style is the favorite of most fathers. This type closely resembles those used during hikes or by children in school. It also has two straps, worn on each of the two shoulders. Most of the backpack diaper bags available come with several pockets, as well as accessories.

The choice of material is crucial as it will influence the “life span” of your diaper bag. Thus, determine where and how often you will be using it for. The light colored, satin fabrics may be pretty, but these are susceptible to tear and stain. Leather and nylon materials are the more durable options.

Majority of diaper bags come with changing pads. Make sure that the size of the changing pad is not small for your baby, and should be easy to clean.

Pockets are essential features in diaper bags. They serve to hold wipes, creams, ointments, diapers, and other nappy essentials. Quick changes will benefit much from these features. Also, bottle holders serve their own purpose. They hold the bottles in place, thus, preventing leaking.

Finally, if you feel that the mediocre diaper bag brands available do not offer you everything, and do not seem to be the right choices, then there are designer diaper bags which may well be worth the investment. And since you will be bringing your diaper bag everywhere you and your baby go, the price should not compromise functionality and aesthetics – the last two should go hand in hand.
