Maternity Bras
For a lot of expectant mothers, change in breast size can be both an exciting yet worrying experience. When pregnant moms start to outgrow their cups and begin to set their rib band to its last pair of hooks, it’s time to get maternity bras.
Maternity bras are “specially-constructed” bras that are often designed by experts. They provide comfort and support that no luxury lingerie can match. Similar to maternity clothes, these maternity bras may be priced more than the usual regular bras. However, its construction and design will definitely support the breasts during pregnancy. Keep in mind that the increase in size of the breasts may be somewhat “heavy” and standard bras won’t offer the necessary support.
If you’ve been used to choosing bras for their look, that may no longer apply with maternity bras. It doesn’t mean to say however, that a maternity bra will not look nice, but it simply means that it won’t have those bits and pieces that make most regular bras attractive. Consider going to a shop specializing in maternity bras and request a professional fitter to fit you, they can also help you in buying maternity bras that are perfectly right for you.
A pregnant woman’s rib cage expands and the baby might curl-up right beneath the ribs, forcing the ribs outwards. Pregnant women may have to measure around the body, right under the arms to find out the right band size. Uneven number results needs to be rounded up to its next even number –the sizes of bands are only even numbers and you won’t want tight maternity bras.
The cup size increases as well, as the breasts starts to enlarge in preparation for feeding. To make sure that an accurate size of the cup is bought, bust measuring the bust is important. This can be done by measuring the chest around bust’s fullest part, holding the tape measure leveled around the body. The difference between the bust size and the band size will determine the cup size, which is in inches.
After the proper size of the bust has been determined, it’s time to choose a bra and fit it. This will be the only way to guarantee that the size comfortably fits you. If the cup of the maternity bra covers the breast without spillage, as well as the band goes around leveled without going up in the back, then the fit is perfect.
Once you’ve found the right comfortable maternity bra that fits your taste, it is good to buy not just one but more than a few. The majority of women buy their maternity bras during the early stages of the pregnancy, typically during their first trimester. This is ok, as long as you keep in mind that as the pregnancy progresses the breasts will become bigger and the first bras will be outgrown.
Be prepared to get new maternity bras later in the pregnancy, and avoid getting bigger size bras just so you could leave room for when your breast gets bigger. This is very impractical as you cannot estimate how big the breasts will get later in the pregnancy.
When buying bras for the third trimester, consider getting adjustable “nursing bras”; they will provide the same support as maternity bras, but its cup fabric may be detached for baby feeding in the future. The adjustable band and cup offers a little added room for when the breasts “jumps” a cup size after giving birth.
Maternity bras are essential for pregnant women, as the breast will need the necessary support and comfort as it enlarges through pregnancy. It is important to get the right bra size for ultimate comfort; buying the bras according to the stages in pregnancy will help avoid outgrowing too many bras at one stage.
